Arburg Pushes Additive Manufacturing
In order to emphasize the importance of the freeformer and additive manufacturing for the company's future strategy, Arburg, Lossburg, Germany, has established the position of Director Sales freeformer to which Eberhard Lutz has been appointed, following his 20 years of responsibility for Sales in Germany. After having put technical responsibility in the hands of Dr Eberhard Duffner, sales responsibility for this key product has now also been firmly placed at the company's top management level.
At the K 2016, Arburg is demonstrating how the range of applications for the freeformer has grown. A great deal has happened since this system made its big international debut at the K 2013. Based on three exhibits, Arburg demonstrates the range of applications and developments with regard to material qualification and process stability:
- In a practical example of "Industry 4.0", the freeformer will individualize high-volume parts, demonstrating personalized production.
- The production of a model toggle over a period of around 200 hours - in other words over the course of the entire trade fair - will demonstrate the process stability of the freeformers. Moreover, the component with its numerous moving parts is a good example of how functions can be integrated thanks to water-soluble support structures.
- On the third freeformer, Arburg will process a high-temperature material, demonstrating the range of materials the open system can handle. This freeformer will produce fully-functional technical parts for the electrical industry in small batches.
New Director Sales Germany
With effect from 2017, the new Director Sales Germany will be Oliver Giesen. He began his career at Arburg 30 years ago: initially, he completed a university of cooperative education course in mechanical engineering with Arburg before establishing and developing the company's turnkey activities as Head of Department. Demand for individually automated production cells of this type is growing steadily. In 2015, the value of incoming orders - expressed in euros - was 12 % above the figure for the previous year. 2016 has been yet another strong year for Arburg, with growth in the turnkey segment.
