AMI: Thin Walled Packaging Demand Increases
Applied Market Information (AMI) Consulting has published a new pan-European report covering market size, structure, growth and market dynamics in the area of thin walled packaging. According to the study, in Europe thin walled packaging accounts for over 2 million tonnes of thermoplastics. In the report, thin walled packaging is defined to include yoghurt pots, butter and margarine containers, meat and fruit trays, blister packaging and similar containers. It excludes CD and DVD packaging and blow moulded packaging. The largest single application is dairy products accounting for 22 % of the market. The fastest growing application is chilled ready meals which is growing at around 6 % p.a. PET and PP are gaining market share, while PS and PVC are losing market share. The largest three producers in Eurpe are Huhtamäki, Espoo/Finland, Klöckner Pentaplast, Montabaur/Germany, and RPC Group, Northants/UK.
