New PE and PP Partner from Oman

Ambitious Goals of the Oman Oil & Orpic Group

In the first quarter of 2019, the Oman Oil & Orpic Group had already announced a USD 28 billion investment program, with projects in its nine core businesses over the next ten years. The Group also includes Oxea, based in Monheim am Rhein, Germany, an oxo chemicals company and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Oman Oil & Orpic Group since 2013.

Increasing the Company's Polypropylene Capacity

To the USD 16 billion of key projects already underway must be added the USD 6.7 billion construction of the Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) for sustainable polymers. The LPIC steamcracker will produce polyethylene (PE) in Oman for the first time and strengthen the company’s polypropylene capacities. The investments at the site will boost the Group’s capacity for PE and polypropylene (PP) to 1.4 million t tons by 2020. The product portfolio will then include LLDPE, HDPE and polypropylene (PP).

The improved product mix is intended to help the Group’s partners meet the growing global demand for sophisticated polymers. The main areas of application are packaging, industrial equipment, infrastructure, household goods, household appliances, agriculture, and medical technology.

Active in Nine Core Businesses

Since 2018, the Oman Oil & Orpic Group has combined nine core businesses into one joint venture: Orpic, Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production, Oman Gas Company, Duqm Refinery, Salalah Methanol Company, Oman Trading International in Muscat, Oxea, Salalah Liquefied Petroleum Gas and OMPET. The Oman Oil & Orpic Group aims to increase its share in the global hydrocarbon value chain and to facilitate regional and international participation in Oman’s oil and gas sector as a way to boost shareholder value and the Group’s contribution to Oman’s economy.
