2nd Forum on Thermoformed Packaging: Sustainability is the Focus

Every time a new packaging is created, it should be taken account of its impact on the environment, and the possibility of recycling or reusing it. This is one focal point that emerged during the 2nd Forum on rigid and foamed thermoformed packaging organized by the Plast magazine and Reed events, which took place on 23 and 24 November 2011 in Milan, Italy.

The event saw the participation of Italian and foreign operators, engineers and companies of the food and industrial packaging industry, who all agreed to identify a different - and indeed more attentive - approach to the impact on the environment. A trend that is also consistent with the behavior of consumers, who in their purchase decisions pay increasing attention to products with reduced or recyclable packaging.

An intense programme of conferences addressed issues concerning machinery and equipment (extrusion lines, thermoforming machines), process technologies, energy saving, auxiliary equipment (filtration, dosing, transport, refrigeration, temperature control), raw materials, technical standards, applications, waste washing and recycling, environmental and economic sustainability.

The conclusions were positive for the industry pipeline, which has been able to interiorise and undertake several activities directed to meet the consumer demands on the one hand, and the needs of the planet and market growth on the other hand. Creating sustainable packaging not only helps the planet, but also provides a communication and marketing advantage to companies that undertake and prove to be committed to these themes.
