Measurement Technology: Critical Strain as a Parameter in Failure Determination

Plastics parts design is usually stress-based. Yet Menges and his colleagues long ago discovered that it is more accurate to use strain as a criterion. However, it is quite complicated to determine so-called “critical strain” as a limit value. Recent studies done at the IKT in Stuttgart, Germany, aim at making this determination more accurate and simpler.
