Three approaches stand out from amongst the wide range of developments worldwide. The systems are now making a move into the micro range, permitting the direct production of parts and assemblies. Machines are becoming faster and more productive, and new concepts now mean that the direct and cost-efficient production of customized mass-produced articles for everyone will soon be within reach.
